Marketing to Generation Y (College Students) – Advertising Federation (AdFed) Miami FL

April 8th, 2008 · No Comments

For those of you in the Miami area, I’ll be speaking about Marketing to Generation Y (College Students) this coming Thursday April 10th. The talk will be at Chocolate on 2091 Coral Way 7pm-10pm. I’ve been invited down by the Advertising Federation of Greater Miami, and I understand the Fort Lauderdale AdFed chapter has also been invited. The event is free for members, $20 for non-members, and $5 for students.

Because of a new birth rate boom started in the mid 80’s, Generation Y is the largest generation in US History (twice as large as generation X, and one million greater in number than the Boomer generation). The first group of Gen Y is now enrolled in colleges and universities around the country (about 70% will attend some college even if all do not graduate). They have tremendous influence over their siblings, parents and grand parents, and themselves represent a +$200 billion market (conservative estimate). Importantly over 65-85% of their spending is disposable/non essential spending.

I’ll specifically be talking about what Anderson Analytics GenX2Z has learned from tracking these students since 2005, and more specifically about the battle ground for their minds. I’ll specifically be looking at online advertising, especially web 2.0 and SNS related.

Look forward to meeting some new friends down there. And it should be warmer than in Connecticut.

-Tom
