Web 3.0 Part 1, Google Controls All Email?

I’m often asked my opinion on what I think Web 3.0 (or whatever the preferred name for the future of the web is) will look like. I have seen some trends which I think may grow over the next couple of years. I thought I would bring a few of them up and ask if others agree or have seen other interesting trends emerging.

Today I thought I’d start with one of Google’s many attempts to become more powerful. Our CTO recently suggested we look into switching our corporate email to Google. This free and very powerful (best spam filters in the world) and easy to implement system I believe is tied to Google Apps. Google may be targeting small to medium businesses initially but I would imagine it would be attractive to larger companies as well.

What do you think about this trend and what it might mean for Microsoft or co. network administrators in general?
