One of the Next Gen Market Research group members on LinkedIn posted a review of LinkedIn polling feature today here.
I’ve reviewed Facebooks polling feature on this blog in the past. It doesn’t seem to be available any more though.
One thing I would add to Bret’s review is that in terms of sampling, other than using the paid feature, sending selectively within one’s network, and posting the poll URL on LinkedIn discussion groups (or elsewhere like Twitter etc.), group moderators like myself also have the option of sending the poll to all group members.
Of course, the only benefit to using the LinkedIn poll rather than something more robust like ZomerangPro for polling is the fact that you can purchase completes from LinkedIn. In all the other convenience sampling situations, other survey/polling tools would provide more flexibility with question types as well as the ability to get at the raw data.
As far as usefulness and cost benefit of the feature, I do think it can be effective for directional/early stage project feedback, especially if it is a B-B study.
Results from the recent NGMR Poll on MR demand is available here.

I think there is huge potential with Linkedin polls, although when I asked them for some further info they never got back to me.
