AMA 2010 Market Research Conference

September 30th, 2010 · 3 Comments

Networking, Presentations, and Awards!

I just returned last night from the 2010 Market Research Conference hosted by the American Marketing Association. It was wonderful to finally connect with so many Next Gen Market Researchers in person. I was pleasantly surprised to see that about 75% of attendees (when asked for a show of hands) are members of the NGMR group I moderate on LinkedIn.

While my favorite part of these events is usually meeting up with and networking with fellow researchers, there were also several presentations that are inspiring and lead to good ideas. While impossible to cover them all, yesterday’s three final presentations were especially interesting to me for different reasons.

ComScore’s CEO, Gian Fulgoni, presented together with General Mills Todd Curtis, Senior Consumer Insights Manager, on the problems (including deleted cookies) in measuring online ad effectiveness and ROI. Deborah Wall, Customer Insights Leader, GE Capital Americas, in true GE fashion showed us how anything, including something as complex as a segmentation can be process diagrammed and planned so that execution will be smoother. Finally, Gary Singer, CEO of Buyology, inspired and reminded us to think more about how to leverage emotional measurement techniques in research.

My only wish; that there was something on text analytics. Perhaps I’ll be invited to give a few of Anderson Analytics’ newest case studies next year ;)

This conference was of course also special to me because along with three other great researchers, I was a recipient of the Inaugural “4 Under 40″ emerging market research leaders award. I’d like to thank the AMA board, volunteers ad staff (especially Matt Valle and the nomination committee) for their hard work and for the honor of the award.

I also very much enjoyed meeting and getting to know the other three very interesting research leaders, Kristin Luck, President of Decipher, Nick Harrington who is Consumer Research Manager at Procter & Gamble, and fellow FTO board member, President of BAQMaR, and Insites Consulting Executive Tom De Ruyck. (Good Luck and please do stay in touch!)

Although a three day event, there are so many NGMR friends which I didn’t get a chance to meet in person. Please ping me if you were there and we didn’t get a chance to chat. I’d love to hear from you.
