First NGMR Stamford MeetUp

September 29th, 2011 · 2 Comments

And I thought I knew a lot about about social media…

I’ve received a few emails from folks who couldn’t make it to the Crab Shell in Stamford CT last night for NGMR’s first MeetUp, asking how it was. To be honest I had absolutely no expectations to begin with. If 3-5 would have shown up I would have called it a success.

On Wednesdsay afternoon we had about 15 RSVP’s on our MeetUp site. I didn’t know what to make of that. I’ve worked with local non-profits where we’ve had events planned and tried recruiting additional guests via our facebook group, have had 50 positive RSVP’s, but come event day one or none of them showing up. Add to that the fact that CrabShell is by the water, typically an outdoor location, and with the heavy rain yesterday I thought we would have a very small intimate get together. Still I showed up a half hour early just in case.

Well I was completely wrong. Six or seven folks from Nebu had arrived before me (Sorry Eric for the loss of your pen)! By the end of the night we easily had three times the number of RSVP’s show up.

Big thanks to AJ Keirans for setting up location etc. Thanks also to Jack Campisi and Ginger De Stefano who also offered to help out. Also thanks to Micki Tiffen who rememberd to snap a couple pictures at the end before everyone had left.

It looks like we’ll definitely be having another one of these soon. Thanks for coming out, it was great to meet so many new researchers!

Very nice to hear it was such a great success. Send my regards to AJ (great guy) and the Nebu team next time. (Although I’m not even sure they know me by name, I’ve worked with the Dutch and Hungarian teams mostly.)
