Top-20 Most Popular Movies

December 21st, 2010 · 2 Comments

Continuing with this weeks theme, I’m posting the favorite movies today from our most recent GenX2Z US College tracking study.

One thing is clear, I have to see Inception!

Interestingly, Toy Story at III #2, is just as popular among the guys as the girls. Given our statistics on the use of Facebook among this demographic, I’m not at all surprised that The Social Network is so popular. Great movie by the way.

I was invited to a preview of a Saw movie and came away very depressed for the state of the human race - because I knew how popular these squalid, torture-glorifying attacks on human dignity really are. It would be interesting to mine your data, Tom, and then analyse the respondents who rate Saw as a favourite - putting these at number 16 on your list.

Do they have other signifying characteristics? If your poll has a psychometric battery, then it would fascinating to see if these are misfits (my hypothesis) or, in actuality, just your harmless young kid from next door.

Interesting hypothesis and idea Duncan. I was going to say that I’m not sure we have the variables to determine if they’re “misfits”, but then I recall that we do have a couple of questions from a well validated psychographic battery which include ‘outlook’ (satisfaction/depression).

I personally hate the horror genre, though I’ve met some seemingly normal kids who really love it. I wonder if there’s not some secondary research out there from academia that has explored this link?
