Barriers to entry just as important today as they were over 500 years ago
Glimmingehus Skane Sweden
I drove by Glimmingehus the other day and decided to stop in briefly. It’s not very spectacular as far as castles go but it has a few other characteristics which make it very unique. Other than being one of the […]

First Day Update from ESOMAR Innovate
June 17th, 2008 · 2 Comments
Thought I would post a very brief update from the morning session of the first day at ESOMAR Innovate. Opening Keynote speaker Greg Fraley, who is an author and innovation consultant, started us off with claiming “Starbucks is Officially Dead” and has become McDonalds. His presentation Deliberate Innovation stressed the difference between simply “doing innovation vs. being […]

What place does quality have in marketing these days?
May 29th, 2008 · 13 Comments
Wondering if true quality has a place in today’s push for cost efficiency through globalization?
A study released yesterday among luxury car brands claimed BMW ranked #1 on quality and Toyota ranked 5th! I don’t think we know what quality is anymore, and perhaps it’s the consumers fault.
Most “economic historical” books that compare life then and […]

Brainstorming Tips and Techniques – 6 Colored De Bono Hats
May 14th, 2008 · 7 Comments
I recall once receiving a business card from someone, though I can’t remember who it was now, which had six colored hats on the back. There was also a link to a website which told you more about the hats.
I thought it was a neat idea, and I wish I would have kept the card […]

The Art of Making People Feel Welcome – Who Comes First, Employees or the Customers?
May 7th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Business Guru Tom Peters, inspired by a book by the book Hostmanship: The Art of Making People Feel Welcome (by Jan Gunnarsson and Olle Blohm), wrote about focusing on employees rather than customers and in that way raising customer satisfaction (specifically in the hospitality industry).
Having worked with several clients in the hospitality industry in the […]

Seth Godin’s Passion and Pop Curves

Seth Godin’s Passion and Pop Curves
Perhaps Seth is right? Perhaps viewing our population this way would be more accurate and create more interesting products? What do you think?
Until recently I think we would all have had to focus our work on the pop curve. Though now, with the targeting of category leaders to influence the market via CGM/SNS becoming more popular, perhaps we’ll have more opportunities to conduct research projects among just the “Passionate”. Once you get the passionate on your side as evangelists, going after the pop-market (perhaps with a second product) may be a new popular online marketing strategy.
